Heavy rains
Today it rains like a waterfall,
As if there was a lake up there,
Suspended till the bottom gave.
The sound of pouring a steady,
Loud and unyielding gush that
Suggests no end till lake is on
Our streets, a straightforward
Exchange of volumes, in which
We play, with all our science,
Hapless bystanders still, trying
Individually to be dry, except,
Of course, that in recent times,
In ways well-known and dearly
Protected, we’ve made it worse.
